Ben

I started my love affair with the outdoors at an early age. My parents were (and still are) avid walkers and caravan/campers, so as kids, we would spend much of our time out in the countryside or in some remote part of the UK.

Wind the clock forward to the early 1990's and I discovered rock climbing (and Peglers), which is a passion of mine to this very day. Around this time I also got seriously into Ice Climbing through the Peglers IceFest, (I have been on 14 IceFests!)

In 2002 I joined Raleigh International on an expedition to Ghana, West Africa, leading a trekking project; and in 2004 I joined Trekforce Expeditions as a Project Leader in Belize. Upon returning to the UK, I started my employment with Peglers!

My interest in bushcraft and the outdoors led me in 2005 to complete a NCFE Level 4 certificate in Bushcraft Instruction, along with other outdoor qualifications. In 2007 I went to Southern India for 6 months to work for a charity involved in the Sustainable Development of rural villages.

Besides my passion of climbing and travelling, my third passion is motorcycle over-landing. In September 2009 I rode my motorbike (a BMW R1100GS) from the UK to Ghana in West Africa, to visit the villages I lived first saw in 2002. My journey took me through France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and then Ghana. The whole trip took me 6 weeks and nearly 6000 miles!

And finally my fourth passion is light-weight back-packing. I love the idea of walking for days at a time with everything on my back. My favourite place is Scotland (the Cairngorms and the Isle of Skye). I am very keep on light-weight equipment.

And between all this I have to earn a living!
