This self diagnosis test is used on a tick that has bitten you and will indicate the presence of Borrelia bacteria which could lead to infection with Lyme Disease which in some cases can prove to be extremely debilitating. Note - this test is a test of the tick and does not require any blood sample or any other material from the person bitten. Each test is one use only.

The rapid Lyme bacteria Tick-Test is a lateral flow test - a simple diagnostic tool to detect the presence or absence of this bacteria. First place the tick in the test tube, crush the tick with the wooden stick, add a drop or two of the liquid provided with the pipette, and place on the test cassette. After just 20 minutes the test indicates if the tick has tested positive or negative. If 2 red lines show on the cassette the tick is infected with Borrelia.

Please note, just because a tick is infected this does not necessarily mean that the infection will automatically have passed on to the person bitten. However, it is a very good indication that medical consultation should be sought as soon as possible. Early diagnosis of, or treatment against, Lyme disease can be key in preventing some of the most dangerous and long lasting symptoms.
