Portugal: Sport & Bouldering
|
| This is the first ever, climbing guidebook to Portugal, and is produced in the typical modern colour topo style that Jingo Wobbly publishers have developed. All the major cliffs have chapter introductions in both English and Portuguese, which does not compromise space in the guidebook. All the routes marked in the guide are in topo form, with international icons to explain the climbing styles and difficulties. There are additional fun descriptions in English for an international climbing audience.
Portugal as a country, is one of the best holiday destinations in Europe and offers a superb climate that is less extreme than many other countries of the same latitude. For anyone who wants to go there on holiday, this guidebook will entertain you on the rock, at the easiest possible opportunity. The cliffs are not large, generally 10-35 metres high. But they all are very different, and have a lovely complimentary style of climbing: Sea cliffs, beach boulders, granite domes, small limestone bouldering cliffs, impressive sweeps of tranquil valley limestone and high mountain granite boulders. What Portugal lacks in quantity, it comes up with in quality. The country has some of the wildest coastline in Europe, greeting the savage Atlantic Ocean. It can rain; but then again, the wind always blows to dry the rock at an instant. The wind is the blessing in drying the rock, and cooling you down on hot days. |
